Melanie Daniel of Absolute Business Development talks to Vale Life about her fresh approach to business and what she enjoys about living in the Vale.
THE LAST WORD
Who are you and what do you do?
I’m a mother to Mia aged 6, and coowner of Absolute Business Development, a telemarketing company with a fresh approach, currently based at the Business Centre in Barry.
We focus on developing quality business leads through appointment setting, telemarketing, lead generation and market research, and put our clients in front of decision makers to grow their business.
What do you like about the Vale?
Living in Dinas Powys, I am lucky enough to live in the countryside close to the beautiful coastline, but also so near to Cardiff Bay and the buzz of the City. I also love the way that Penarth and Barry are regenerating to create an exciting merge between the old, the new, the countryside and the town. I’ve found that the Vale is a great place from which to run a business.
Where is your favourite dining experience?
The Seashore Grill at Swanbridge is a great place for a hearty breakfast, whilst sitting in the sunshine overlooking Flat Holm. They offer good home cooking and the best cup of tea in the Vale! I’ve had many happy times at La Marina in Penarth, it has to be the best dining experience, having a panoramic view of Cardiff Bay and offering an excellent menu with extensive wine list.
What is your favourite meal?
King prawns smothered in garlic butter followed by a Chateaubriand steak accompanied by a well bodied bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
Favourite place in the Vale?
In the summer it would have to be enjoying picnics on the beach, and in the winter, a brisk walk in the countryside followed by lunch next to a log fire in one of the many good pubs in the Vale.
The best event in the Vale?
The Midsummer Festival at Dyffryn Gardens in June/July is a lovely outdoor theatre setting for both children and adults.
What’s missing in the Vale?
A huge children’s indoor playcentre, so that my daughter could physically exhaust herself!
Favourite place to stay in Wales?
The Stackpole Inn, near enough to the most outstanding beach in Wales, Barafundle Bay, bit of walk to get to, but just breathtaking.
What do you do to relax?
I love to get out and about and enjoy quality time with my daughter at the weekend, perhaps walking on the beach. Equally, I love to relax with a good book and entertain friends with good food and wine.
Do you have a pet hate?
The amount of litter in the Vale that I see in the places I visit, such as beaches, parks, schools and railway stations. Litter for me is a major problem within South Wales, it’s everywhere, even in more remote places, and I feel we should make a stand and take more pride in our environment.
Favourite music?
I love a variety of music, some of my favourites are Michael Buble, Coldplay, Snow Patrol, David Gray, Fleetwood Mac, Madonna and many more.
The most memorable thing that happened to you was?
Becoming a Mum, love at first sight! Also, since taking the challenge of starting my own business, my life has changed dramatically – I’m loving every minute!
If someone summed you in three words?
Honest, hard-working and loyal.
What gadget would you not be without and why?
At the risk of sounding shallow my favourite gadget would have to be my GHD straighteners, the best invention ever!
Any lifelong ambition?
To have the chance to travel the world. I’m very good at... Spending money I haven’t got!!
I’m very bad at…
Spending money I haven’t got!!
The best age to be is...
Well I hit 40 in December and if, as they say, life really does begin at 40 I’m looking forward to enjoying life even more.
In a nutshell my philosophy is…
Life is not a rehearsal, and it’s too short not to take risks!
