Terminal 9 may be frequented by celebs but owner Adam Bick prides himself on the personal touch he offers his customers to ensure they all get the star treatment!

TERMINAL 9

What did you do before opening Terminal 9?
Since leaving school I had always worked in the financial sector which I loved, but I always had a passion for fashion and really wanted to open my own shop. I was on holiday in Miami and was sat in the airport at Terminal 9 on my return and thought, “I really don’t want to go back to work.” This is where it began and, where the name come from. I thought it would be a great name because I wanted to create a destination store.

When was Terminal 9 established? Launched in April 2006, the shop was just a menswear boutique to start. One year later, due to so many customers asking why we didn’t do clothing for women, I decided to take the chance and start offering women’s wear. I was out of my comfort zone and after lots of visits to Harvey Nichols, Harrods, Liberty’s and all of my favourite stores I gathered lots of ideas. I spent many a late night reading Vogue and every style magazine you could think of. This was a big decison but it was the best one I have made since opening. I love how excited my customers get when they see the stock and this creates a great buzz.

What makes fashion so exciting?
Men’s fashion was always my primary interest. From a young age I loved and appreciated nice clothes. I still get excited about going to London to look in Selfridges, Vivienne Westwood etc. I love the buying side of having the shop, this gives me the best feeling when I’ve got it right and sell out of things fast. I still look forward to the fashion magazines coming out and I check out the latest trends, making sure I’ve got it spot on. My favourite brand at the moment has to be Missoni... I love the colours, fabric and cut. It’s such a luxury brand which is an investment buy as it never dates.

Why did you choose Cowbridge?
I love Cowbridge, as it has three of my favourite places... the Hair Business, Jon Ian and Oscars. The atmosphere here is great and it’s full of boutiques.

What brands do you stock?
Womenswear includes See by Chloe, M Missoni, Manoush, Juicy Couture and Vivienne Westwood accessories to name but a few. We have also started stocking Cowshed products which make ideal Christmas presents. For men, we stock Blue Blood denim and Coming Soon (this is a new brand from the guys that are behind y3), Paul & Joe, Puma trainers by Alexander McQueen, Rough Justice, Villain, Givenchy. Other new brands will include Diesel Black Gold and Junk de Luxe.

Who are your customers?

Stylish, fashion aware people who really appreciate luxury.

I hear that Terminal 9 is a haunt for local celebs, tell us more...
Yes, we get a few local celebs in from TV, sportspeople and a few from the music industry. I’ll mention no names as we’ve built up a relaxed atmos phere for them so they can feel comfortable when they come in the store.

What services do you offer? As well as fantastic clothes we can offer a personalised shopping experience and late nights on request. We like to develop relationships with customers so that we know what they like and can contact them when new stock arrives. We order one off pieces which are exclusive, so our customers know that they’re unlikely to bump into someone else wearing the same item of clothing.

Tell us about your new website...
We’ll be launching our new online shop very soon and sending out weekly newsletters to show our customers the ‘must haves’ for the season, ideas for outfit building and keeping customers up-to-date with new brands.
