Christmas must be just around the corner as the Yuletide goodies have started to arrive in the fab Farthings Delicatessen, Cowbridge. 2008 could well be the year of the edible Christmas pressie!
If you’re stuck for what to get that ‘tricky to buy for’ relative and you have a set budget, say it with food! Farthings can create a perfect gift to suit any pocket. Tasty treats are available for the whole family with hampers made to order to suit individual tastes. Perhaps your best friend could do with a girlie Saturday night in with a choco holic hamper to eat in front of the fire.
Customers are welcome to bring their own items to be included in the gift wrapping e.g. a Sex and the City DVD to make the night complete! or a ‘gentlemen’s relish treat’ with cheese board, crackers and relish. Alternatively, why not try the ultimate breakfast treat - delicious jams and marmalades to go with toasted brioche, free range eggs and smoked salmon. The list is endless. The friendly staff are always available to advise on combinations and budgets.
Farthings also offer an exclusive ‘fill the freezer’ option. Homemade freezer meals are made from fresh local ingredients; they are tasty and wholesome and may be the perfect pressie for a busy family who could do with a break from the cooking. The range is huge... soup, fishcakes, deep-fried brie, lasagne, curry, casserole, pies, pasta sauces, braised lamb shanks... take your pick.
There are many goodies in stock, or if you have the time to order in advance, you could even take in your own dishes and have them filled.
The cooks in the shop also make fabulous quiches (available either whole or by the slice), pizzas, salads and pies that are available on a daily basis. Along with the new range of take away baguettes, toasted paninis and daily home-made salad bar. Takeaway coffee is delicious and a must as the winter mornings set in.
All of this is available on top of the usual deli range of perfectly ripe cheeses, a large selection of patés, home-cooked and cured meats (order your Christmas ham early!), marinated olives, anchovies, sun-blush tomatoes, home-made houmous, pesto and freshly baked artisan breads.
And just to top it all off, you can order the fabulous home-made Farthings desserts to take away, a must for any dinner party... mince pies, cheesecakes, roulades, tortes and the infamous raspberry and hazelnut meringue.
