When Alan Lamb was working in the merchant navy, he realised that he was missing out on seeing his children growing up. A true family man, he made the decision to leave the navy and decided to take over the local bakery at 264 Holton Road, which was then called Withers Bakery.
As Alan was new to the bakery business, Mrs Withers who was of a good age, would regularly call into the shop and give help and advice which he appreciated. Today, the Jolly Baker still bakes on site using the original oven inherited from Mrs Withers. He has a regular fan base of loyal customers who just love the selection of breads and freshly bakes cakes available.

We then move on to lunchtime with home made curries, pies and lasagne, along with lighter options.
