Why is it that we never seem to appreciate what's on our own doorstep? Often, we find that visitors and tourists from further afield know more about our area than we do, because they take the time to learn about it. It might go some way to explain why Ann Bryl, owner of Bryl's Boutique in Barry, continues to see an increasing stream of customers walk through her doors.
HIGH STREET CHIC
Ann likes to know where her customers come from and why. They explain that they have it on good recommendation and they prefer an unhurried pace of shopping and the personal touch.
Visitors returning this autumn have discovered that it is worth travelling a little bit further for good service and stylish clothing. That and the fact that Barry has undergone a multi-million pound regeneration programme to take it well into the future. In fact some parts of the town are, now, quite trendy.
Take, for instance, the High Street - home to Bryl's Boutique. It is a small street in a residential area that enjoys a reputation for independent and niche shops. You can shop at leisure and in a calmer frame of mind.
Let's be honest, women are busy people and at times things can get a little stressful; so Ann has provided the perfect antidote for busy women, who love going to the shops instead of shopping online. She's listened to the problems women face when choosing clothes and then gone a long way to provide a solution. Let's take a look.
In the big city, I'm just a number!
In other shops maybe, but not here; regular customers are known by name and Ann and her staff work on building lasting relationships with customers.
Boutiques are expensive and pushy!
Small boutiques can appear intimidating because there are fewer people to hide behind and women feel an obligation to buy. At Bryl's, however, the staff do everything they can to welcome customers and no one should walk away with something they are not sure about - if in doubt Ann would prefer you to say that and return once you are sure. Bryl's has put some serious research into the needs of women and the brands they stock. It has been brought together in a beautiful space and at prices cheaper than big department stores.
Someone else might be wearing it!
She's thought of that, which is why they stock only a limited number of pieces in each size so the chance of you seeing someone else in something bought at Bryl's is unlikely.
I get confused with all the choice!
Think how many times you walk in and out of stores, few of which are not suited to your style and then you walk away with something you don't like after walking around for hours. This is frustrating for many women, which is why Bryl's has been very discerning about stocking quality mid-range designer labels such as Ted Baker, French Connection, Great Plains, UGG Australia, Nougat, Sandwich, Traffic People, Darling, BiBi, the phenomenally popular FitFlop boots and Suzy Smith bags.
There is enough choice but without being overwhelming. Stylish shoppers look for the details and cuts that are synonymous with certain designers and choose them for their style and wearability. What's more, two of the team are talented style consultants which makes for an altogether easier and special trip.
Help - I work all day!
Out of hours appointments are available for those who can't shop during office hours. All you need to do is give Ann a call to arrange a time to visit.
Will I be able to get all I need for my autumn wardrobe?
All good wardrobes start with quality basic pieces, peppered with colour and accessories. Bryl's stocks a varied range of stylish pieces to make up some fabulous outfits and add to your existing wardrobe. Ann has been in the retail and fashion industry for over twenty five years and someone with her experience can offer objective advice on how to interpret the key looks for the season. When she gets to know what suits you better, she will be able to let you know when new seasonal pieces arrive in the shop.
When someone has taken this much trouble to provide the local community with stylish clothing, service that is second to none and a lovely shop, it would be rude to go elsewhere!
