Vale Life talks to Martyn Burnett, partner at Burnett Davies Lettings of High Street, Barry about the current state of play with the lettings market.

Burnett Davies Lettings are a specialist residential lettings and property management company dedicated to the lettings and management of houses, flats and apartments across the Vale and throughout South Wales.
Martyn, what is your role at Burnett Davies?
I am one of three Partners at Burnett Davies which is a multi disciplined property partnership established over 25 years ago. I specialise in direct residential property investment and management.
What do you like about being on High Street, Barry?
The attraction to High Street is that it is a very small but vibrant retail environment which has high footfall with many committed retailers.
How is the lettings market for you in the current
economic climate?
Following the frenetic pace in 2007/2008, the lettings market has settled but demand for property still remains strong with a good tenant uptake but an increasing shortage of properties coming to the market.
Are you optimistic about the next eighteen months?
I certainly do not see the tenant demand lessening, whereas it is evident the biggest drawback may be the supply of available properties.
However, this should have an affect of strengthening rentals. What happens with bank lending, of course, will have the greatest impact.
What do you like about the Vale?
As an area it offers a fantastic variety of scenery from the countryside to the coast but whilst retaining excellent communication links.
Where is your favourite place to stay in Wales?
Plas Bodegroes Hotel on the wild Lly^n Peninsula in north west Wales.
What do you do to relax?
Gardening, shooting and sport.
Do you have a pet hate?
Red tape.
Favourite music?
I am very open minded about music with a wide range of tastes.
What are your future plans for Burnett Davies Lettings
Due to our direct investment in property and our expertise in managing larger portfolios we are constantly being asked to act for more and more clients who require that particular area of expertise.
