When owners Steve and Claire Bloom
welcome customers into their showroom at Spacefittingfurniture on Colchester Avenue in Cardiff, they'll usually talk about designing and installing a beautiful, contemporary Rational kitchen. However, word is getting around that this stunning furniture has other uses elsewhere in the home. Vale Life talks to Steve about using Rational throughout the home.

Rational is normally associated with kitchens. What drove you to install the units in other areas of the home?
I see myself as a designer of kitchens first and foremost. It's something I really enjoy designing. From the initial customer brief of what is required for their kitchen to really work for them to hearing the feedback after the work is completed, I like to feel a part of the whole process and to know that each customer's kitchen ticks all of their needs and more. It was when Claire and I were discussing changing the design elements in our own home that I began to think about using the Rational units in other rooms. We like the contemporary, minimalist look and the thought of following this look throughout the house. You know how these things work - we may have friends over for dinner or for coffee and they see the work that's been done and the next thing, we're being asked to do something similar in their home. It's grown from this - it's not a concept that we've actively sold in the showroom.



Where can the units be used?
Most rooms you can think of really - the office, bedroom, bathroom, lounge, dining room. I could go on. Even Rational's own designers are amazed at some of the things I have done with their products.



What makes Rational so good?
Being a German brand, the quality is superb. It's also very flexible. I can order almost anything - not just a hinged cupboard but one that lifts up, or slides open and even a bi-fold. I can also order any size panel in a range of different thicknesses. The versatility holds no bounds! It's also very durable, so the units will look good for longer.
