THE WHITE MOVE
The Ski Lodge has moved from its original location in Barry to a new purpose designed retail space in Cardiff Bay. Vale Life talks with Jason Jeffery about the move and the exciting new season ahead.
Why the move from Barry?
We're all caffeine addicts and just had to move next door to Starbucks! In all seriousness, we've taken the business to an incredible new location which is a lot closer to the hub of sport and leisure in the local area - Cardiff Bay.
For an active sport orientated store like ours The Bay is such a perfect place to be situated. We are just around the corner from the ice rink, national pool and the new white water rafting centre. Just take a look at our new building... it's such a fantastic site that we simply had to move in and bring The Ski Lodge to the capital city.
This means that the store is a lot more accessible now to a wider customer base. We have extremely loyal customers who shop with us year in year out so we didn't want to move too far from our original home in Barry, but the real benefit to all of our customers both new and existing is that we can now offer a full twelve month a year business. We are still the Ski Lodge, but now open throughout both the winter and summer months.
What can we expect from the new store?
The roots of The Ski Lodge have always been in providing the very best ski and snowboard product and first class customer service. This will remain the core thread throughout the new store. It will be the Ski Lodge that has been known and loved in Barry for 25 years, but with a little capital city twist. The biggest difference is clearly a store that remains open all year. Not only will we continue to offer everything you need for a trip to the snow but we're pretty excited at the prospect of bringing you, in addition, a bigger range of lightweight technical and lifestyle wear including many products that will crossover sports.
So, think kit that you can wear to the gym, out on your bike and on that post-work jog as well as the latest leisure wear. All of this will, as always, be selected from the very best brands available. New for The Ski Lodge will be a big increase in the range of footwear we offer throughout the year. Everything you'll possibly need from snowy slopes to wooded trails and the urban jungle.
What's new this coming season?
Well, we're expanding our existing brand and range offerings. We have a fantastic range of clothing, accessories and equipment arriving in store now. Womens clothing and accessory ranges are strong this year with the addition of Barts who supply a stunning range of hats, scarves and winter accessories.
Add to that the latest luxurious outerwear from Spyder, technical excellence from The North Face and French chic from Poivre Blanc and you have the choice of some beautiful pieces. What's more, with a wide variety on offer you don't neccesarily have to ski and snowboard to find something special in the new store.
The guys and the technically inclined among us are well catered for too with the latest ranges of ski and snowboard equipment and gadgetry all ready to be put through their paces on your next snowtrip. A great new addition to our product range this year is Under Armour. A brand well known to sports enthusiasts for their stylishly understated technical layering systems.
It's been a pretty busy summer for us preparing the new store and we are all really excited at the prospect of presenting all of the fantastic new kit in such a great new space.
How's the new website?
The website has become an integral part of the Ski Lodge over the last few years, particularly since we have been selling online. We are continuing to develop the site and are offering a much bigger range online this season.
So, if you can't make it to the new store, and we strongly urge you to do so, you can pick up exactly what you need without leaving the house.
It's also a great place to keep up to date with what's happening at the Lodge, take advantage of special offers and get a feel for who we are and what we are all about. We have shipped products around the world this year from Norway to New South Wales and it's pretty incredible that what started out as a small family run business in South Wales now has a worldwide customer base!
When do you plan to open?
If all goes well and the paint dries when it's supposed to we are looking to open towards the end of September ready for the new season. As with any big project like this deadlines can change, so check our website and sign up for our emails for the official opening date as it's just around the corner.
