Great things are happening at Blu Hair Design, Penarth and not wanting to miss out on the activities Vale Life popped along to catch up with Alexis Williams who co-owns the salon with her sister-in-law Hayley Williams.

BLU GOES GREEN

As we become more sophisticated in our use of products and experimental with our hair and style, it is all the more important to spend time getting to know our stylist and in turn for him or her to listen to our needs and wants.

To this end, Alexis, Hayley and the Blu team really get to know the clients to determine their lifestyle and their ability to manage their hair once they've left the salon. In fact, all new clients undergo an in-depth consultation to determine the facts, even down to face shape and overall build which can determine the haircut that best suits them.

Basically, they listen and in response to all that listening, the salon has gone from strength to strength since it started out four years ago. We asked Alexis to tell us about their current key initiatives.

Blu has always operated a 'green policy' and its commitment to this ethos continues with its standards of social responsibility, welfare to the environment and ethical sourcing of new products. Salons need water, yet they ensure that taps are turned off at every opportunity. More than ever the Blu team is reducing, reusing and recycling. Products such as Schwarzkopf Essensity and Moroccan Oil are free from ammonia, paraffin, parabens and artificial colourants to name a few, and refuse to test on or use animal derivatives in their ingredients.



The People
Many of the staff at Blu have been present since the beginning and through careful nurturing have become confident, creative senior stylists. Training ensures staff remain up-to-date and industry specialists are invited in to share their expertise.
