BARRY
Poster designs are real eye-catchers!
Barry opticians, Arbuthnot, set a
challenge to local school children
aged between nine and eleven to
come up with a poster to celebrate
Eye Care Week.
Children from Ysgol Sant Curig, Barry
Island Primary School and St Athan's Primary School were invited to enter the competition and Mark Roberts, Creative Director of Vale Life magazine was asked to judge the competition.
"The standard was very high with some really imaginative work but Tiegan Avaient's poster stood out from the crowd with its bright colours and clever use of the spectacles," said Mark. Tiegan, aged ten, is a pupil at St Athan's Primary School. Tiegan will win £100 worth of art and craft supplies for her school and she will receive an Optical Illusion Science Kit, Optical Illusion Book and an Arbuthnot goodie bag.
"There was only supposed to be one winner but I couldn't resist the entry from Eddie W, aged eleven, also of St Athan's Primary School, as this entry was in the form of a story book and reminded me very much of the process of designing a magazine. It was very detailed and had such a good storyline that I've decided to award Eddie a prize from Vale Life of £10," Mark said.
Sarah Aspinall of Arbuthnot Opticians said "Arbuthnot would like to congratulate both winning entries and say a big thanks to the rest of the entries which were of an exceptionally good standard."
