Vale Life spoke to Spa Manager Claire Caddick about the recent development.

What's your role at the Vale Spa?
As Spa Manager my role encompasses all day-to-day operations, recruitment, and training. Recently, my focus has been on the development of the new spa which is focused in a new direction as a result of talking with our discerning guests about what they really want - it isn't all about slimming, carrot juice and heat treatments any more! Many guests come on their own for the tranquility, and some like to chill out with friends.

How long have you worked here?
Over four years now and in that time there have been huge improvements and dramatic changes.

What new treatments will there be?
We have taken on a number of bespoke treatments from the Sundari range, which are exclusively available at the Vale Spa. They are traditional Indian Ayrvedic treatments which means they are created for the individual depending on their dosha (personality type).



And when you want to relax?
The new look spa has three unique relaxation zones, each with a bespoke design to help you find your idea of perfect peace. If your idea of heaven is a comfy leather sofa and a handful of the latest glossy magazines then the stylish'chill-out' zone will be perfect for you. For something more relaxing, surround yourself with the soothing sounds of the 'water' zone with its comforting water beds and stunning water features - truly a haven of total calm where you can simply float away. If you want to shut off completely then the Indian-inspired 'sleep' zone where shimmering lanterns and sumptuous quilts will provide the ideal environment to doze.

What other products are available for your customers?
Clarins is renowned worldwide for its innovative and results-driven product range, from face and body care to cosmetics. It has a loyal following and has been at the forefront of the industry for many years. This in itself is a major reason that it is our product of choice.

We have a great relationship with them, and we are the only spa that they have agreed to work with directly to launch our own range of treatments created by myself in tandem with their treatment development manager.

Tell us about your customers
We do not have a 'typical customer'. The percentage of men who visit us continues to slowly but steadily grow. We have many local people who call in for regular treatments and we have an increasing number of customers staying on a residential spa break package. We continue to welcome many day spa guests, on their own or in groups, from here in the Vale of Glamorgan and also from further afield. The new larger spa is also in the enviable position of being able to cater for groups of up to 50. So whether you are celebrating a birthday, about to get married or simply friends getting together for some quality time, the spa can offer a range of tailored packages to suit you all and is perfect for a relaxing, yet fun packed group experience.

Where do you find inspiration?
I researched a number of spas, but it's more a case of developing your own ideas. We've worked really hard to create a relaxing and enjoyable experience for our guests. This ranges from a simple aura cleanse before entering the spa, through to individual fragrance rooms, and also offering areas that can be reserved for private groups and parties.

Each customer wants something different from the spa and we wanted to be able to cater for all tastes and I believe we've achieved that.
