Spain still top hotspot for bmibaby passengers from Cardiff Airport

Recent research from low cost airline bmibaby has found that Spain still tops the polls for its customers looking to get away this summer from Cardiff Airport.

bmibaby found that 66 per cent of passengers travelling with the airline from Cardiff Airport, in the summer months of June, July and August 2009 are heading to Spain for their holiday.  Of those, 29 per cent are travelling to Malaga and 24 per cent to Alicante.  Almost one quarter (24 per cent) of those flying to Spain are visiting the popular holiday island of Majorca. 

The second most popular option for bmibaby customers over the summer months was travel within the UK and Ireland, with 24 per cent of passengers booking a trip closer to home.  The most popular domestic destination is Edinburgh with six in ten of these passengers visiting the Scottish capital.

Portugal is also a favourite bmibaby destination from Cardiff Airport, with 10 per cent of passengers travelling to Faro, the gateway to the Algarve.

Julian Carr, commercial director, bmibaby, said:

“We are still seeing really strong bookings for summer, especially to destinations where customers are guaranteed some sunshine.  Spain is still the number one spot for our customers travelling from Cardiff Airport this summer.”
