Coffee Concerts at National Museum, Cardiff, return for Eighth Season
Plans have just been released for this winter’s season of Sunday morning Coffee Concerts of chamber music, given by CwpanAur in association with the National Museum of Wales. Performers include the pianist Llŷr Williams, cellist Thomas Carroll, violinist Sara Trickey, the Barbirolli, Finzi and Solstice String Quartets and the Erato Piano Trio and. All concerts are given in the Reardon Smith Theatre at National Museum Cardiff and take place once a month starting on Sunday 18 October and concluding 11 April. This will be the eighth season of concerts and follows on from last year’s series, attracting the highest audiences to date. The concerts are keen to welcome young people and all under-22s in full-time education can attend free-of-charge.
This year’s Series opens on Sunday 18 October with a concert by the Welsh violinist Sara Trickey and pianist Iwan Llewellyn Jones in music by Debussy and Elgar. There are also concerts by three string Quartets: the Barbirolli Quartet (17 January), the Finzi Quartet (11 April) and the Solstice Quartet (13 December), featuring some of the best-loved Quartets in the repertoire by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms. The acclaimed Welsh pianist Llŷr Williams will give one of the concerts from his complete cycle of Beethoven sonatas (7 February) and the young Erato Piano Trio will play trios by Fauré and Ravel (7 March). The series opens with two concerts by two Welsh-born string soloists, violinist Sara Trickey (18 October) and cellist Thomas Carroll (15 November).
