Looking for a new wardrobe for this season but don’t have the time or inclination to trudge the shops? Bryl’s Boutique on Barry’s High Street is the answer to all your prayers.
THE CHIC OF IT!
If you love fashion as much as I do, you’ll probably find that you’ll walk into a certain boutique and you’ll want everything on the rails. I often wonder if this is pure coincidence but, after a chat with Ann Bryl, owner of Bryl’s Boutique in Barry, I now know that stocking the right labels goes much deeper than this. Here, Ann shares with us the reason why her brands ring true.
What brands do you stock?
Quite simply, over the years I have chosen clothes which I love to wear myself. Bryl’s has an amazing range of clothing from French Connection, Nougat, Great Plains, Sandwich, Chilli Pepper and Religion. I stock sizes ranging from 8 to 18 and as I have come to know my customers well I know exactly what they want to wear.
Why French Connection?
French Connection never fails to keep the brand exciting and original, pushing boundaries and always making a statement. The key to their success continues to be the combination of exceptional clothes at the forefront of design, at affordable prices.
How about Sandwich?
Sandwich is a label with Scandinavian origin. This brand is a casual but modern range, great for women of all ages and uses fabrics with lots of natural fibres. They offer stylish clothes with added detail for a more interesting look to your day-to-day wear and keep surprising us every season by adding some striking pieces to their collection. Whilst Sandwich clothing is great for basics, you will also find some statement pieces for special occasions.
And Nougat?
Nougat is a particular favourite of mine and many of my customers. Nougat has built its reputation on designing and producing eminently feminine clothes including knitwear, skirts, dresses and accessories. Nougat London’s signature styles are clothes that have a luxurious vintage feel with great attention paid to the exquisite detailing using beads, sequins, ribbons and trims.
Nougat’s spring/summer season is a striking collection, bursting with rich, vibrant colours such as coral, cerise pink and cobalt blue. This exotic and ethnic collection moves fluidly from the sophistication of 1960’s Riviera through to a definitive nod to the 1970’s global hippy, in anticipation of a long, hot and earthy summer.
Who favours the Religion brand?
As Religion is all about irreverence and attitude, with its trademark destroyed t-shirts and graphic prints, the customers who are drawn to this collection like the funky and individual look. Among its celebrity followers are Pussycat Dolls, Girls Aloud, Kate Moss and Kylie Minogue.
And what about Great Plains?
Great Plains are fabulous for affordable wardrobe staples with essentials for layering throughout the season. T-shirts, vests, camisoles and three quarter length sleeve tops are available in every colour from natural hues to brights. There’s no brand better for jersey fabrics and linens. Their wrap dress with frill edge is both elegant and versatile and is already proving a hit in the shop.
Any new brands on the horizon?
Yes, I’m introducing Darling, which has been exceptionally popular with celebrities. Darling is a feminine range with party classics. It’s unmistakably individual with a vintage twist with ravishing jewel-coloured fabrics, inspired designs, exquisite details and sumptuous quality.
You also introduced Ugg Australia last year. Are they proving popular?
Yes, this brand is going amazingly well. The boots are perfect for both spring and summer as you can wear them with dresses and skirts in warmer weather and jeans when it’s cooler. I’m looking forward to the new range of casual flip flops and sandals which are particularly comfortable as you’d expect from Ugg, and right on trend.
You also stock a range of accessories, tell me about these?
Yes, we have a great range of bags from Nougat, Suzy Smith and French Connection. To complete any outfit, we also have beautiful pieces of jewellery in silver and semi precious stones by local designer Melinda Mulcahy and also jewellery by Bibi.
