Kudos of Pontyclun is a hotbed of creative talent. They certainly have their fingers on the pulse of what’s hot for 2009. Vale Life speaks to Kudos on the current trends and how to wear them.

CREATIVE KUDOS

Christmas has come early to Studio, and I’m very excited about our new Glacier acrylic range. Acrylic has become the new buzzword in photography and is a new and stylish way to present your photos. They provide a personal accent to modern interiors, adding warmth to what can be a quite clinical style.

What's new for Kudos for 2009?
There will be some new products and ideas launched at Kudos for the coming year and a lot of ideas will be inspired from Nigel’s visit to Las Vegas when he attended a Redken National Symposium. Ten thousand hairdressers gathered together to share ideas and new concepts. Clients can also expect to see a new environmentally friendly product that delivers fantastic results and gives a money back guarantee if you’re not satisfied. Also, new spaces will be created for these exciting new ideas.

What trends can we expect in 2009 for women?
Extreme is the new ‘in’ word. Extreme length, extremely short, extremely curly, extremely sexual – dishevelled tresses creating a messy, chic look, created by twisting and naturally drying hair. Wet hair is sleeked for a clean finish or for up-do’s look at off set chignons, high flicked fringes, and dishevelled pinned up hair, roughed up buns. Clean looking ponytails will be a good look for the summer.

And for him?
Short, sharp clean edges with more length on top, which is straightened and worn tall. Hair is quiffed by turning the mini irons towards the tip of the fringe. We could also see the return of the flat top shape and forms of wedges.

How do we achieve extreme hair lengths?
For extreme lengths after the short bob, look towards Great Lengths. Great Lengths are the ultimate in glamour. Not only is the hair 100% human hair remis, but each extension can be ethically traced and is of the highest quality.

The hair ranges in length, colour and texture, meaning you can choose to have lots of air pressure hair throughout the whole of your head, up to 60cm systems for extreme lengths, following celebrities Katie Price or Cheryl Cole. You can opt to flash the colours, with bold contrast, using either our hot and cold fusion machine or our air pressure machine.

Great Lengths have an added bonus as you can choose between two different application techniques depending on your hair needs. Either way Great Lengths can really work for you.

What are the hot colours for 2009?
We will see brunette bases with golden highlights, creating a darker root area. Ebony colour will be strong again, as will be the use of red. Summer always sees a move towards lighter hair colour, using several shades to create multi tones.

We are seeing low maintenance colour techniques becoming popular to allow for flexible timescales in between salon visits. Also you’ll be able to see the launch of our new Redken Blonde Glam Highlift Colour Service.

What’s the vibe in Pontyclun?
The regeneration of Pontyclun continues with the opening of new businesses and the improvement of existing ones. It is a thoroughfare through to the Vale of Glamorgan and beyond, so we are seeing a lot more people stopping and using the local facilities.

I hear that Kudos are involved in competitions, please tell us more
We hope to have an active year in competition work. We have just sent a photo image for one particular styling competition and will shortly enter a Redken competition. Popular stylist Craig is also currently in the semi finals of Head and Shoulders’ Nation’s Favourite Hairdresser Award. Some of our young creative members will be entering the Cymru ISA competition in May.

Why did you choose Alice as your model for the Vale Life cover girl?
Alice’s mum has been a good client of Kudos for several years, so it was fitting that her daughter was used for the front cover look. The long hair is definitely a strong theme for 2009, complimented by contrasting tones, bringing life and movement to the hair.
