Lynnette Knight of The Business Centre in Barry talks to Vale Life about living in the Vale and her passion for fast cars, snow mobiling and how to avoid kissing frogs!

THE LAST WORD

Who are you and what do you do?

I’m Lynnette Knight and I’m currently running The Business Centre based at Cardiff House, Cardiff Road, Barry. We provide serviced offices, telephone answering, mail address facilities, conference and meeting room hire.

What do you like about the Vale?
I have lived in Barry in the Vale for most of my life. I love that you can get to the city within thirty minutes, yet only be five minutes away from the sea and the beautiful coastal paths surrounding Barry. I am lucky enough to live in one of the oldest cottages in Barry which backs onto a common and within five minutes I can walk into the countryside or the woods.

Where is your favourite dining experience?
I love fish and we are lucky in Cardiff and the Vale that many restaurants have an excellent choice of fresh fish on their menu. I particularly like Loch Fyne but for a real treat I love Le Gallois Y Cymro in Romilly Crescent, Cardiff. Equally, nothing beats the fish and chips at Barry Island or at Porthcawl, especially when eaten sitting on the sea wall watching the waves or the children playing.

What is your favourite meal?
Seabass in rock salt with a lovely cold bottle of Italian Gavi.

Favourite place in the Vale?
I love the view from Marine Drive and have enjoyed many picnics on the grass verge looking out to sea. For some odd reason, I also love the view of Barry Docks and although it has changed beyond recognition from when my grandfather took me there as a child, I still smile when I catch a glimpse of the Docks from one of the hills in Barry.

I also love Cowbridge with its fab shops and cafés and the little hidden beaches around Monknash bay.

Best event in the Vale?
The Cowbridge Food and Drink Festival is always worth a visit but for me, any event held by The Barry Business Club as I get to be with wonderful friends, laugh lots and may have a drink or two.

What’s missing in the Vale?
I love everything about the Vale and would like to say nothing… however, it saddens me that Barry no longer has a vibrant town centre and if I could wave a magic wand I would make the town more attractive for high end retail outlets, which would then breathe life back to our town.

Favourite place to stay in Wales?
Fairy Hill Hotel in the heart of the glorious Gower Peninsula. Not only are the rooms and food wonderful but you have easy access to the beautiful Port Eynon Bay, Three Cliffs Bay and Rhossili.

What do you do to relax?
During the week I love to read or watch television when I get home from work and at weekend I like to have quality time with my family or have friends over for champagne or Irish Whiskey in the hot tub followed by good food, wine and excellent conversation.

Do you have a pet hate?
My pet hate is dog owners that don’t clean up their dog’s mess and drivers who don’t say thank you when you give way to them or people who don’t say thank you if you hold the door open for them or show them a kindness. It takes nothing to be polite and share a smile or a greeting.

Favourite music?
My favourite singer is Andrea Bocelli (I called my dog Bocelli after him). I had the good fortune to see him perform live. He was wonderful and has a very spiritual quality. When I do the housework I love the volume up loud to Prince or Genesis and I like to relax to Marvin Gaye. His voice soothes me.

Most memorable event?
Meeting my grand daughter Jessica Molly for the first time. She’s a wonder and delight in my life. Prior to Jessica, my best experience was snow mobiling in Montreal during the Millennium.

Sum yourself up in three words
Hard working, loving and nuts.

What gadget would you not be without and why?
I am not a gadget person but I do love fast cars and anything that makes life easier in the kitchen!

Any lifelong ambition?
I fulfilled it a few years ago I stopped kissing frogs!

I’m very good at…
Giving advice.

I’m very bad at…
Taking advice.
