VALE
Book a table...
you’ll be glad you did
There’s no better time to frequent your local restaurant or eatery than now. Yes, times are tough but we all need a treat now and again and a meal out with your loved ones, family or friends never fails to hit all the right endorphin fuelled buttons. Here are a few options we’ve tried or had recommended.
If it’s midweek lunch you’re looking for, then the newly refurbished Oscar’s on Cowbridge High Street is one to try if you haven’t already. If curry is your thing, then curry night at The Star Inn, Wick is having rave reviews but make sure you book as it is very popular. Farthing’s in Cowbridge also never disappoints along with their fab deli. And thinking about deli’s, Foxy’s Deli in Penarth is popular with locals as is Thyme Out in Dinas Powys and Food For Thought on Barry’s High Street.
When it comes to Sunday lunch, then you really are spoilt for choice. The Bear in Cowbridge gets recommended to us a lot, as does the The New Red Lion Inn in Pendoylan (evening meals are superb there too). Illtud’s in Llantwit Major offers excellent roasts and you can take a nice stroll along Llantwit beach afterwards.
For the caffeine collectors out there, Vanilla on the High Street in Barry does superb latté’s and cappuccinos (and great breakfasts). They also do tapas in the evenings on a Friday and Saturday. Talking about tapas, don’t forget Bar 44 in Cowbridge or Tempus Fugit in Southerndown – both are fab. Back to coffee (and food), Ocho Lounge in Penarth has a great atmosphere too – we always seem to end up having meetings there.
The Gallery in Cowbridge (opposite Havana and High Society) prepares excellent pizzas and are now also offering frozen home-made meals to take away and they do great coffee.
If you pop down to Vida in Porthcawl for a spot of retail therapy, you can round off the visit with a stroll around the corner to Beales – in our opinion, one of the best fish and chip shops in the county. Their haddock is to die for.
Finally, if afternoon tea and scrumptious cakes makes your taste buds tingle, The Blue Pelican Café at Hamptons in Penarth is a must visit, as is The Linen Cupboard in Cowbridge.
Forget the credit crunch – it’s time for lunch. Book a table today and give yourselves a real treat!
If you’ve had a great meal or a fantastic time at a Vale eatery we’d love to hear about it.
Recommendations really help our local businesses so whether it was a great coffee, fabulous meal or just simply good service, let us know. |
