Arbuthnots see kids' life through the lens
A question that's often asked of Arbuthnots is, 'When is it ok for my child to start wearing contact lenses?' The answer, quite simply, is contact lens wear is not a matter of age - many infants and toddlers wear them.
There are many benefits to children
wearing contact lenses. They are worn
right on the eye for more natural vision,
the entire field of view is in focus
(which is important for sports), there
are no annoying obstructions or
reflections, there is no weight resulting
in discomfort and they don't fog up.
Then there are the reasons that matter
to children that affect their self esteem
and confidence. Contacts match
everything you wear - not every family
can afford fashionable glasses (this can
sometimes lead to teasing and bullying).
It can even be something as simple
as glasses are annoying to wear in the
rain or snow.
Very often many opticians simply
don't like fitting children with lenses, especially if the child has a difficult prescription. This is not the case at Arbuthnots.
Sharron Hopkins, practice partner said,
"We see many children who, for whatever reason, find difficulty in wearing eyeglasses, whether it's because they find lenses more comfortable or that they find wearing glasses affects their self esteem. Prior to fitting, we explain the appropriate care procedures with the child and the parents (contact lenses are particularly fast and easy to clean). End result? A happy and confident child."
If you feel your child would benefit
from wearing contact lenses instead
of glasses, then contact Arbuthnots
for an appointment.
