Bringing The
Outdoors In
Enjoy the outdoors without feeling that British evening chill!
|
|
With the cold weather behind us and those long hot
days and balmy summer evenings fast approaching,
Emma Leeke, Commercial Director of Wales’ leading
independent department store, Leekes, tells us why the
emerging trend for conservatories can help us Brits
continue to enjoy the great outdoors from the comfort
of our homes.
If the fitted kitchen was the domestic must-have of the 1970s,
today it is surely the conservatory. Now more than 200, 000
are built each year and this figure shows no sign of shrinking
as the range of conservatories available continues to grow.
What’s more planning permission is rarely required so you get
the space of an extension without the mountains of red tape
that goes with it.
While we can’t enjoy alfresco living all year round, a stylish
conservatory is the ideal solution for bringing the outside in.
As the weather cools off and the nights get shorter, their
popularity is easy to understand - they give us a chance to
enjoy the great outdoors from the luxury and warmth of a
great indoor space, all year round.
Not only do they allow us to enjoy the beauty of natural
light but they enhance your home’s appearance and add
value. Their versatility means that they are appealing to all
giving that extra space that everyone craves and creating
the ideal solution when moving isn’t an option but you need
more room.
These days conservatories are not just summer rooms.
Modern design, building, insulation and ventilation mean they
are for everyday use throughout the year. In our experience
people want conservatories for many different uses, in the
widest variety of styles and to suit all budgets.
Ensuring the style of conservatory you choose fits in with the
look of your home is a key consideration:a variety of styles
from Georgian to Victorian, glass or solid roof, bevelled or
plain glazing will allow for very different looks. Gone are the
days when uPVC was the only option. Interestingly, we are
currently witnessing a huge surge in demand for the
traditional timber frame conservatories as homes become
more eco friendly.
Our bespoke range of David Salisbury conservatories uses
Idigbo hardwood which comes from sustainable plantation
sources farmed in Ghana’s Ivory Coast, West Africa. Not only
are these conservatories the sound choice environmentally,
but they require minimal maintenance and provide the
warmth of real wood without putting a strain on your
heating bills.
You needn’t worry that a new conser vatory will look out of
place against older properties. David Salisbury is a well
established company with a huge amount of experience
working with listed buildings and fine country homes to
create a subtle fusion between the traditional and the modern
as if the conservatory has always been part of your home.
There is also a greater choice of colour now. Although the
traditional white is still popular it is no longer the standard
option and more and more conservatories are springing up
in olive greens and light yellows which look fantastic against
Georgian and other period properties.
So, while the temperatures begin to increase and the light
evenings are encouraging you to spend your time outside,
enjoy the experience of the outdoors without feeling that
British evening chill, with the added bonus of your creature
comforts. A beautifully crafted conservatory will add that
individual touch as well as bringing a new warmth to
your home.
Leekes has stores at Llantrisant, Cross Hands and Melksham,
