Each issue we will try to introduce you to a place that we have visited and would like to share with you. In this issue we visit The Newbridge Inn country brasserie.

Take Me To The River

The Newbridge Inn has two AA rosettes and was awarded ‘Welsh Restaurant of the Year’ 2004/5. It is rated four stars with the Wales Tourist Board and 2007 began well with ‘Best Country Retreat’
being awarded by Cardiff Metro.

The Newbridge Inn has the best of both worlds with an 80 cover
restaurant, 16 seat private dining area and terraces overlooking the river. It also has six luxurious bedrooms which follow the same Tuscan theme as the restaurant. Just take a look at the visitor book to see comments such as “The welcome was really warm from the minute we walked in. The food was exemplary, with superbly thought out options, served with style and flair – every dish was a joy to the palate. ”

High standards are optimum where the kitchen is concerned. Meat is
sourced from three main local suppliers – Croesllan Catering from
Cwmbran, Torfaen for beef and Welsh lamb; Pork Borough Farm near
Abergavenny for Gloucester Old Spot and Welsh Venison from Bwlch near
Brecon. Fresh fish arrives daily from Moby Nick of Plymouth and as they
have rod licences from the Usk, they get occasional catches from
local fishermen. Vegetables are mainly sourced from local farms,
organic where possible.

Front of house is effortlessly managed by Gethin Owen, 31,
(see photograph) who was previously employed as restaurant manager for The Chandlery in Newport.

With The Newbridge’s reputation as a special occasion destination, Gethin has collaborated with the head chef and changed the style of cooking to encourage more lunchtime trade. The Newbridge Inn now offers a more rustic country brasserie style of menu. The bar area is now available for those wishing to call in for a glass of wine and a light bite and this is already proving a big success.

It’s great to work with such a talented and enthusiastic team at The Newbridge Inn. Working in such a beautiful location is no hardship either!
said Gethin whose easy-going and charismatic style is bringing a real buzz to this stunning country brasserie on the bank of the River Usk.

The Newbridge Inn website will soon be relaunched.
