COWBRIDGE
Oscars Bar & Grill
Dinner
If you’ve not yet been to Oscars Bar and Grill on Cowbridge’s High Street, you’re missing a real treat. If there was a place that ticked every box for great ambience, décor, service, food, people watching opportunities (come on, well all do it!), then this is it. If all you want to do is relax and enjoy a cocktail chilling out on the sofas, you can, or if you want to treat yourselves to lunch or dinner and choose from a tantalizing menu of mouthwatering steaks, crisp salads, juicy burgers, sandwiches or flavorful pastas, then you can do that too.
You might think, well, she’s going to say that isn’t she, she’s selling advertising. Fair cop. Perhaps then you might best hear from Rhodri Owen of BBC Wales’ consumer show X-Ray who regularly frequents Oscars with wife Lucy Owen and new addition to the family, Gabriel.
We’ve been going to oscars for years. Before we moved to the area, we would drive down from cardiff a couple of times a month, but since moving into the area a year and a half ago, I guess we have become ‘regulars’.
When we’re not away working, we come here most Saturday mornings for breakfast. It’s almost an essential part of our weekend now. We’ve even gone for breakfast with friends and carried on to have lunch. Since our little man arrived, we haven’t managed an evening there, but before his arrival, we were almost part of the furniture. Whenever we go in to Cowbridge we grab a coffee, and I guess with little Gabriel, we have more of an excuse..
We go individually, as a couple or as a family. They always have the day’s papers at hand which is a lovely touch, although these days it’s not so easy to have free hands to enjoy the papers...
Oscars deserves an Oscar. It has everything without being too fancy. You can eat inside, outside, at a table or relax on the sofas, and whatever the time of day, there’s always something to tempt us.
From the specials to the old favourites, healthy options to the treats, they’re are all tasty. I’m a huge fan of their winter brunch (always does the job, and value for money) and the summer ‘lighter’ healthy breakfast makes me feel better after so many brunches!!!!
Ask me what my favourite meal is at the moment and I’d have to say it’s the healthy breakfast of yoghurt and fruit salad with a smoothie and a latte. During the winter I’m always drawn to the homemade burger.
Like most people, we have visited a fair few eateries in our time, and having worked on a travel show for four years, I’ve really eaten my way around the world and experienced service worldwide.
Oscars is truly special, not only is the food spot on, but the service is always fantastic! It’s almost un-noticed, which is a magical touch. Everything appears and disappears so smoothly.
You really can’t go wrong!

Rhodri can be seen with wife Lucy as they help solve consumer queries and complaints, along with reporter Jessie Swinburn, on one of the BBC’s most popular programmes, X-Ray which can be seen on BBC One Wales
