The Copthorne Hotel Cardiff
Dinner at the Copthorne Hotel with Madame Lulu Lamour may conjure up images of a secret assignation with a sultry starlet, but I can assure you that our evening was more Blazing Saddles than blazing passion!
Dinner theatre is hugely popular in the States but fairly uncommon in this Country. The Copthorne however have certainly hit on a winning formula with their four themed shows.
We saw ‘Romance at the Crazy Horse Saloon’ performed by a company of four extremely hard working actors who hardly left the stage. The plot, which involved the impending marriage of Lulu and Tom was linked with a variety of toe tapping songs from ‘The Deadwood Stage’ to ‘Islands in the Sun.’ The show was pure fun and it was clear that Sarah, Sam, Gemma and Alistair enjoyed every rootin tootin number.
The food appears effortlessly between the two halves; warm tartlet of goat’s cheese followed by fillet of sea bass then steamed dark chocolate pudding and finally coffee - no bangers and beans here.
At £27.50 the evening is exceptionally good value when you add together the cost of the meal and a live show.
The four shows are very different with something to suit most musical tastes. And for the festive season Aladdin will be hopping onto his magic carpet and flying into the hotel for the annual pantomime.
Those of you who prefer a somewhat quieter Christmas would no doubt enjoy the Copthorne Christmas Spectacular with traditional carols and heart-warming seasonal songs.
The Copthorne Hotel Cardiff presents hotel based Dining Theatre, Wednesday to Sunday.
Enjoy the experience of Broadway and West End style live musical theatre performances, combined with a sumptuous 3 course set dinner (lunch on Sundays).
Ticket prices - £27.50 per person includes live theatre show and 3 course meal with coffee. Concessions available.
