  HAMPTONS OF PENARTH

Hamptons is widely acknowledged as having one of the best daytime cafés in the Vale of Glamorgan. What has become something of a best kept secret however is their extremely popular music and dinner evenings.

“It all started,” explained owners Andy Bradshaw and Peter Knowles, “with a request from our customers to put on an event for Valentine’s Day.” Rising to the challenge, they hired a vocalist, Neil Craven who performed a series of Rat Pack, soft jazz and Michael Bublé numbers and served up a wonderful menu with a rather whimsical, romantic theme.

“Tickets for the night sold out so quickly,” said Andy, “that we added a second night which also sold out immediately. People were so desperate to come that we had a waiting list with people calling each day to see if there had been any cancellations”.

“One of the great things about the evening,” added Peter, “was that many of the diners were groups of friends out for a relaxed evening, trying to avoid the huddles of couples staring longingly into each others eyes.”

Andy and Peter then found that having enjoyed the evening so much their customers were asking what was next –a result they hadn’t anticipated. They’ve now put together an exciting programme of events for the whole year, including News Years Eve.

“To date,” said Andy, “we have had an evening on the Orient Express with food and music from around the world, Cocktail Jazz with the Graham Watkins Quartet, Abigails Party with fab food from the 70’s (yes we did have prawn cocktail and arctic roll!) accompanied by an energetic Motown show from the very talented Copthorne Players and a Night on Broadway with West End singer Morgan James which will be repeated in August.”

Andy and Peter are keeping the programme of events varied to ensure there is something that appeals to absolutely everyone.

Further events will include Summer Jazz, A Night at the Opera with WNO, September Swing with Neil Craven and of course they are already taking bookings for Christmas which they assure us will not include turkey or the dreaded brussel sprouts!
