PENARTH The pirates are coming to Penarth

As part of the Penarth Summer Festival Penarth, Penarth town centre will become a ‘Pirate Town’ on Saturday 18th July.
The action takes place in Lower Glebe Street and the organisers, Penarth Chamber of Trade will be welcoming all landlubbers and scurvy dogs to join in the family fun. Pirate themed activities will include ‘talk like a pirate’ workshops, a pirate sandcastle competition – the beach is being transported to the town centre – make a pirate hat and eye patch, pirate cup cake decorating, face painting and hurling wet sea sponges at pirate prisoners in the town stocks.
People are being encouraged to dress as pirates on the day or to wear a pirate eye patch or moustache. Mystery pirate watchers will be handing out prizes to people who dress up and shop owners will be rewarding customers who visit their shops and speak like a pirate as they come in. In the two weeks leading up to Pirate Day many of the shops in Penarth will be decorating their shop windows with Pirate themed displays and there will be a public and panel vote to choose the best window. Children will also be taking art in a Pirate Treasure Trail sound the shops to win computer equipment for their schools. Pirate Day concludes with the Penarth Summer Parade through the town at 4.45pm and the fun continues on the seafront with love music all evening concluding with the annual firework display at 10pm.
