COSMETIC SURGERY SPA
One of Britain’s best known cosmetic surgeons has come home to his roots. Cardigan born Dai Davies, is bringing a new concept of cosmetic surgery and non-surgical aesthetic skin treatments to south Wales which has been popularised in the United States...
After completing his education at Monmouth School, Dai was an undergraduate medical student at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, London. He trained in general surgery for six years gaining his F.R.C.S. and then trained as a plastic surgeon at East Grinstead and London, completing his training in microvascular surgery in Melbourne, Australia.
In 1983 he obtained his Certificate of Higher Surgical Training in Plastic surgery and, at the young age of 33 was appointed Consultant in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery to The Royal Postgraduate Medical School in Hammersmith and later was appointed Consultant to the Charing Cross Hospital, part of Imperial College London.
For many years he was the head of the department of Plastic Surgery at Charing Cross, which was the largest unit in London and was a member of the Court of Examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons which examined young surgeons for their F.R.C.S. and he was also on the Council and Secretary of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
Dai is a Member of I.S.A.P.S. (the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons), and he has lectured in Cosmetic Surgery in the United States, mainland Europe, Japan, Australasia and the United Kingdom. He has also written three books on cosmetic surgery and some of you may recognise him as a regular contributor to a popular television series on cosmetic surgery.
Four years ago Dai decided to leave the NHS to start a new Institute of Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery, run purely in the private sector, as training in cosmetic surgery was no longer available in the NHS. Thus far Dai and his colleague, Nick Percival, have been responsible for nearly thirty young surgeons obtaining hands on experience in cosmetic surgery prior to becoming consultants. This was recently featured in the acclaimed television series ‘Plastic Surgery School’ which was produced by the Cardiff based company, ‘Alfresco’.
Dai has retained his family home in Cardigan and recently built a new house overlooking the estuary of the River Teifi at Gwbert, and spends many weekends and holidays there with his family. His wife, Julie, was a nurse at Bart’s and of his three children, the two boys Hywel and Michael are both doctors. Most recently Dai has merged Plastic Surgery Partners, which is his Harley Street private practice, with Collagenics which is the largest provider of botox and skin injectables in the United Kingdom, to create a new company called Reform Surgical.
Because of his great attachment to Wales, Reform has opened its first surgical spa in Cardiff. Dai is the clinic’s Director and he undertakes consultations not only on facial cosmetic aesthetics but also the full range of cosmetic surgery including breast enlargement and reduction, with patients being operated on, both in the Spire Hospital in Cardiff and The West London Clinic.
Dai is assisted in Cardiff and the South West by consultant aesthetic nurse Katie Cecil (picture below left). Katie was born in Cardiff and trained there as a nurse and has now undertaken a specialist hands on training in skin aesthetics and in the total care of cosmetic surgery patients at The Institute of Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery in London. She is able to advise clients on the whole aspect of beauty; from hair and grooming through to skincare and cosmetic surgery.
Katie is an expert in the use of facial fillers, botox and mild skin peels with emphasis on preparing the skin for surgery and post surgical treatments to help maintain the benefits of surgery for the optimum period of time.
Reform is a team of specialist nurses and surgeons who have developed a unique holistic approach to patient care. No longer is a patient considered only for surgery or skin treatments such as botox or fillers. Reform do not view patients one dimensionally – recommendations may include dentistry, facelifts, fillers, weight loss, diet, exercise, skincare, hairstyling, posture.
Reform’s team provide the most relevant advice to help the individual patient, based on over twenty-five years experience in the forefront of cosmetic surgery. Reform is a team of specialist nurses and surgeons who have developed a unique holistic approach to patient care.
