COWBRIDGE
Natural health market opens
Cowbridge Town Hall has opened its doors to an exciting new market place, bringing together some of the most popular complementary therapies and products in the area of natural health and well-being.
Carys Evans from Cowbridge started the bi-monthly event to offer a relaxing environment in which to sample a variety of natural health products and therapies including her Bioflow magnotherapy range. “The Lesser Hall at the Town Hall has proved to be an excellent venue, with the added incentive of a space to run an organic café, providing healthy and delicious refreshments. The idea is that visitors can come along, browse around the market, book taster sessions or chat to the professionals on hand, and relax with a coffee or juice and a piece of homemade cake.
The market opens between 10am and 1pm on the first and third Wednesday of each month until Christmas, and on the last Thursday of each month between 12pm and 4pm from January 2008.

CARDIFF
FACE (part of the James Hull Group)

An Agera® peel offers a major advancement in non-invasive treatment in the management of sun damaged, aging skin, acne and hyperpigmentation. It offers flexibility and versatility to the client. The components of the Agera® peel are vitamin C, salicylic, lactic and citric acids (alpha, beta and poly-hydroxy acids).
This is a superficial but proliferative peel that is non-irritating and will not cause the skin to shed. The treatment works deep in the skin to stimulate fibroblasts, which will produce new collagen and elastin, cells that deplete as we age. Combined with the product range these treatments can be optimised to give the most favourable outcome.
A course of at least 6 treatments is recommended, weekly or fortnightly, maintenance treatments can then be carried out less frequently.
These peels will not cause any discomfort. The treatment programme begins with a very gentle vitamin c peel and progresses to the AHA’s, BHA’s and PHA’s and increases in strength in the ensuing weeks.
This is truly a lunchtime procedure. Your skin will merely present with a healthy glow after the treatment is finished and make up may be applied. The vitamin c peel may be treated as a skin ‘pep’ perhaps prior to a special event. It will improve texture and tone in just one session.
Anyone at any age can benefit. Teenage to adult acne, pigmentation through sun damage or hormonal influences and moderate to advanced aging can expect significant improvement from this system.
The skin is thoroughly cleansed and degreased. The peel is then applied to the skin with a brush. The first layer is allowed to dry and then a second layer applied. When it has dried cold cloths are applied to the face and cold water drizzled over the cloths, this allows the peel to become active. After a few minutes the cloths are removed and any excess peel wiped off. An antioxidant serum is applied followed by moisturiser and finished with a sunscreen.

COPTHORNE HOTEL
Pure Heaven at The Haven Beauty Salon
Luxury facial at The Haven, The Copthorne Hotel.
Now, my friends will tell you that I'm not the sort of woman you’ll find poring over the make-up pages or heading for the cosmetic counters. In fact, I don’t know what the latest seasonal colours are, and when it comes to ‘nip and tuck’ territory, all my bodily features are still the originals!
I am, though, always up for trying something new. So, as I laid down for the very first time on the beautician’s couch for my inaugural luxury facial at The Haven Health and Beauty Therapy Centre at the Copthorne Hotel at Culverhouse Cross, I began a journey into the unknown!
No sooner had the cleansing and exfoliating process began (with some gorgeously citrus-scented products from the Salon System Chi range of natural products with Green Tea) I started to relax and probe the deep mine of beauty expertise that Lianne obviously had.
As she placed the hot towels on my face to allow the skin to get the most out of the treatment (I can tell you mine was finding this most agreeable) I discovered that my guide on this tour of the world of beauty was no less than the former Miss Wales 1983, and third in line to the crown of Miss Great Britain in the same year!
I discovered that it’s hard to curtsey when you’re horizontal and anyway by then the de-toxing massage of my face, neck shoulders, arms and hands was in full flow. After twenty five minutes of pure bliss, a face mask with soothing eye pads infused with collagen and vitamin C preceded more hot towels and eventually a spritzer of toner and a light moisturiser finished everything off!
I can honestly say that the whole experience was delightful and oh, so indulgent! For a whole hour I was pampered, soothed, refreshed, chilled - and enlightened.
I left fully resolved to do this again and again - where’s my Cosmopolitan!

VALE HEALTH & RACQUETS CLUB
Fit for Summer
Dental nurse Siobhan O’Sullivan who works at the Calgary Dental Practice in Llantwit Major took part in the Vale Health and Racquets Club’s Fit for Summer Campaign. Keen to see how she got on, we caught up with her over a coffee and slice of gateau (only kidding!).
“Firstly, I was delighted to have the opportunity to take up the offer for the Fit for Summer Campaign at the Vale Health and Racquets Club. I am glad to say that I reached my goal which was to lose inches and tone and begin to build myself a fitness programme.
My twelve year old son Cameron who is also very active was also given the opportunity to participate in the junior gym sessions which were very beneficial in helping to keep his fitness up ready for his return to playing rugby. I was very impressed with the variety of classes and other activities available to us both. ie, xbiking which is a fantastic cardio workout and also being able to cool down with a nice swim in the leisure clubs luxury pool. After our energetic workout we would retire to the leisure bar where we were able to enjoy a healthy meal in comfortable surroundings.
I found the Vale Health and Racquets Club a warm and welcoming place to visit with staff being on hand to give advice. They had a very professional approach. I would certainly recommend the Vale Health and Racquets Club’s facilities to anyone looking to lose unwanted pounds or simply tone up.”
If you overindulge over the festive break and find you need to lose those added pounds or you’d like to start the New Year with a fitness campaign, then contact the membership team on 01443 665821/23/24.
