Beauty therapist Amanda (left) and hairdresser, Lisa who are co-owners of Beauty Spot at The Business Centre, Barry tell us what they love about living in the Vale.


Who are you and what do you do?
A I’m a 35 year old beauty therapist of sixteen years at The Beauty Spot at The Business Centre in Barry.
L I’m a self employed hairdresser of fifteen years and work alongside Amanda, sharing work space at The Business Centre.

What do you most like about the Vale of Glamorgan?
L Having the beach on your doorstep.
A The mixture of seaside and countryside around you.

Where would you recommend Vale Life readers go for a totally unforgettable dining experience in the Vale of Glamorgan?
A The Treharne Arms in St Nicolas for its cosy relaxed traditional feel.
L The Casa Paco in Barry for its generous homemade cooking and the memorable family gatherings I’ve enjoyed there throughout my life.

What would be your favourite meal?
L Fillet steak au poivre and a large glass of Chardonnay!
A A perfectly cooked piece of fish, a squidgy dessert and plenty of wine!

Who would your ideal companion be (excluding your partner which I assume is a given!)?
L George Clooney! Need I say more!
A Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones!

Favourite town in the Vale of Glamorgan and why?
L Cowbridge. For its quaintness and window shopping.
A Cowbridge Parade. I love it at Christmas with the reindeer and in summer for the French markets.

Favourite Vale of Glamorgan landmark or attraction that is a
must to see?

A The Barrage at Penarth, watching it operating fascinates me.
L Alexandra Park, Penarth front for its fabulous sea views.

If there is one thing missing from the County, what would it be?
L I think with the Vale’s plans in the pipeline to develop our Waterfront is very exciting and much needed.
A More venues for live bands and some better nightlight for a wider range of ages.

What annual event in the County is a must?
A The Vale Show. It’s fantastic for old and new business to promote themselves and a super day out for the family.
L The visiting French markets.

Favourite music and why?
L Big Mac Wholly Soul Band as we had them to play at our wedding so they made our day very special.
A Locally, my friends’ band ‘Planet Loaded’ for their great rock covers but generally all types of music although I’m a rocker at heart!

What do you do to relax?
A Spending time with my family on weekends, having friends round for meals and shopping with my mum.
L A relaxing bubble bath after putting my son to bed and enjoying a bottle of wine with my husband whilst watching rubbish on TV!

What gadget could you not be without and why?
A I can’t live without my FHI straighteners, they heat up in seconds and transform my bed hair effortlessly.
L Of course my corkscrew and my ID makeup for its quick application and flawless finish.

If you weren’t in your current job, what would you be doing?
A Someone in the medical field like a paramedic or a surgeon.
L Interior designer or personal shopper. It would be lovely to be let loose with someone else’s money!

Any lifelong ambition?
L To travel and see more American cities and states.
A Definitely see more of the world. I’d love to visit the Ice Hotel in Lapland and the Canadian Rockies.

If someone asked you to sum yourself up in three words,
what would those words be?

L Sociable, creative and a perfectionist.
A Bottle – of – Champagne!!
