WAITROSE DELIVER THE GOODS

I’ve been a regular customer of Waitrose in Barry for some time now. I actually enjoy the whole shopping experience!

The aisles are wide so that you don’t crash into someone else’s trolley and the quality and range of quality produce available is difficult to improve upon.

I always meet people I know and there doesn’t seem to be many unruly children screaming in my ears or running amok. We generally do a weekly shop on a Saturday afternoon and lately, because of the commitments with the magazine, I’ve found that I just haven’t got the time to do it. I was so pleased when I heard that they’ve now introduced their home delivery service that I registered as soon as the site went live (6th November) to give it a go.

I found the website so easy to use. Log onto waitrose.com/deliver to check that the service is available in your area, then register and select your delivery or collection slot. I picked the 11am - 1pm slot. There is a minimum order value of £50 and a £5 delivery fee to the door.

To my mind, a £5 delivery fee is well worth it, considering what you’d spend on fuel and, after all, time is money. What’s even better is that I can shop in the comfort of my own home and in my own time with a cup of coffee (ok who am I kidding!) a glass of wine, to make the process an even more pleasurable one.

The site was easy to navigate and I could make my choice from all of the produce that I’m used to in store, as well as all of the money saving offers available. It’s very easy to be tempted by the many lovely things on offer but buying on line helps you not to overspend. Your total is displayed on the right hand side of the screen and if you’ve gone overboard, you can go back through the list to delete items that you can live without. Very handy if you’re trying to stick to a budget.

When you put an item in your trolley, you will have the option to ask for a substitute if the exact product is not available.

Order completed, all that was left to do now was wait until the delivery. The delivery staff arrived in the allotted time, were extremely polite and friendly. I did feel obliged though to help carry the bags but that’s usually I job I do with my husband anyway. Groceries are delivered in bags with either a green band marked ‘store cupboard’, a turquoise band marked ‘fridge’ or a blue band marked ‘frozen’, so it’s easy to see what you need to unpack first. The bags can be returned to the delivery staff or any Waitrose store if you don’t want to re-use them yourself.

I was given a Customer Statement detailing my order summary, payment details, contact details and any substitutes or unavailable items. Looking through my order all of the items were available and had been chosen except one which had was unavailable and was subsituted.

If substitutes are supplied and they are more expensive than the product you ordered, you will be charged the lower price. Substitutes are delivered in ‘normal’ green striped Waitrose bags, and you can return them if you wish. You have to state the number of items you are returning and sign a delivery note that you hand back to the person delivering your order.

At the time of ordering, Christmas was a good few weeks away and I had no immediate plans for a dinner party, so ordering from the Waitrose Entertaining was not necessary but, as the festivities draw closer, I may order from this section. Waitrose Entertaining orders can be combined with orders for standard groceries. They currently have a section for Christmas and New Year and it’s worth noting that December 15th is the deadline for festive food ordering.

I did find the process of ordering online a little slow, especially when I asked to view my trolley or update it but now that I have my order in place, when I come to re-order, it should prove to be much quicker.

All in all, ordering my shopping online from Waitrose Deliver was relatively painless and I would have no reservations in recommending this service to anyone. I actually enjoy shopping at Waitrose but I’ve found that shopping online is an equally enjoyable experience, especially from the comfort of my own home.
