WINTER ISSUE WINNER!
Star Letter

An open letter to Steve Geraty, Network Development Manager at the Post Office regarding the proposed closure of the Post Office in Llantrisant.

I am responding to your document ‘Proposed branch closure’ and have listed below the reasons why the Llantrisant Post Office needs to remain for businesses and residents alike.

For businesses
There are 16 individual businesses in Model House Craft & Design Centre alone who all need the services of the Post Office for sending parcels of work to galleries etc.

Model House Llantrisant Limited which manages the building, Model House Craft & Design Centre, is also a business and use the Post Office for stamps as, like all small businesses, franking machines are not a viable economic option.

If the Swan Street branch closes, our nearest sub Post Office, although less than a mile away, involves a member of staff getting in their car and driving there with packages to mail out. This is both uneconomic and not environmentally friendly. Apart from the consideration of the staff time involved.

For individuals living in Llantrisant

For people without a car – especially the elderly and mums with young children, the walk down to Southgate to our next nearest post office is not an option. The pavements are narrow, the road is used as a
‘rat run’ by commuters to Llantrisant Business Park, apart from the steepness of the hill for the return journey.

Public transport does not pass by the sheltered housing complex in Gwaun Ruperra, therefore the residents are reliant on friends, relatives or a local taxi service. An unnecessary burden for all concerned.

And finally, we receive sterling service from our Sub Postmaster and Postmistress, Colin and Lynn Cranness and, as one of the oldest hilltowns in Wales you are planning to deprive us of a vital service and two people whose local knowledge of the town (and their customers) is essential to keep the heart of Llantrisant beating.

Jenny Rolfe
Director, Model House Craft and Design Centre

If your local post office is under threat, please send your letters
of protest to:

Once the decision has been made by the Post Office to close our
local treasures, there’ll be no going back and their services will be
lost forever.

Hi Jennifer,
Love your new magazine. Have read both editions now from cover to
cover and can’t wait to see what you’ve got in store next!

Clive’s paintings are breathtaking. Would love to have a local artist
hanging on my living room wall (not literally of course!)

Hello Jennifer,
Have just visited Hamptons after reading your article in Vale Life - what
a wonderful find. The shop itself is amazing and very reasonably priced
and The Blue Pelican Café was superb. I thought the menu was
really well thought out, catering for all tastes.

As a vegetarian, I often feel a bit ripped-off eating out, but here I had a
lovely tomato, avocado and mozarella salad. The portion was so large I
couldn't even manage a piece of cake for afters (I'm sure I'll have on on my next visit with a cup of coffee!).

Keep up the good work,
Jan Parker
