LLANTWIT MAJOR
Illtud’s 216 - An apology
Our restaurant reviews are very popular with foodies around the Vale, but you can imgine Dave Keeble’s surpise from Food for Thought Delicattessen in Barry when he started getting calls for reservations. Now Dave has a fabulous delicattessen but has no immediate plans to open it as a restaurant. How did this all come about? Well quite simply, we had mistakenly put the number for Dave’s delicattessen at the end of our review for the fabulous Illtud’s 216. Dave was very understanding and kindly offered to pass on the correct number to all those who called.
Georg was previously the executive chef at Cardiff’s five star St David’s Hotel and he has brought his five star culinary skills to Illtud’s 216 in Llantwit Major. Georg and Einar decided that the time was right for the move to Llantwit Major and to set up their own venture. They had visited Illtud’s 216 on an earlier trip and knew straight away that it was the perfect place to start the next chapter of their lives.
With the emphasis heavily being placed on the freshness of produce, each dish is made to order. Portions are plentiful and so good that you don’t want to leave any on the plate. Illtud’s 216 has a great ambience and the staff knowledgeable and friendly.
We have made a firm booking for New Year Eve as Georg and Einar are having a Carribbean themed affair which promises to be a gastronomic delight and a thoroughly good night out to boot. For those of you who have yet to visit Illtud’s 216 and sample Georg and Einar’s wonderful hospitality, the number you need to call is 01446 793800.
Dave, don’t forget to book a table for yourself and your good lady wife and we’ll pick up the tab – it’s the least we can do. Once again, our sincere apologies to Georg and Einar – see you on New Year’s Eve – if not before!

SOUTHERNDOWN
Champagne
There are many places to enjoy Pol Roger, but Southerndown has to be one of the most picturesque (and possibly the coldest!).
It does, however, ensure that the champagne is served at the correct temperature and enabled Nick James, the Managing Director of Pol Roger UK to wax lyrical about its’ charms. Only available in South Wales through Falernian Wines, Chris Rogers, Director of Wine has found willing partners in some of the finest establishments in the Vale and they are both pictured here with James Sykes-Hagen outside Frolics Restaurant in Sotherndown. ...................................................................................................................
